• 1/3 cup coconut oil – You can purchase at any grocery store.
• Essential oils – You can purchase on Amazon, Whole Foods, or any health food store.
Customize your balm or butter with your favorite scent and add even more healing properties

1. Combine wax, shea butter, and coconut oil in a bowl and heat (on stove or microwave) until all the ingredients are melted.
2. Remove from heat and set to cool for 10 minutes then add your essential oils.
3. Place mixture in the refrigerator until it hardens into a “balm.”
4. To make the body butter, simply whisk the balm for 3-5 minutes until it has a “frosting-like” consistency.

  1. Guys do not put it in the microwave to melt it, use a double boiler or put the bowl in some warm water. The direct heat from the microwave can really ruin the nutrients of your oils and butter.

  2. Shea butter and oils should be melted slowly to preserve their properties. Therefore, microwave should be avoided. Essential oils can add a nice fragrance but they are very concentrated ingredients used mainly for healing purposes and should be used with precaution, especially on children and on pregnant women (some such as peppermint, for instance, should be strictly avoided on children).

  3. Hi Brooke, not sure if you knew this or not, but putting something with essential oils in a plastic container can actually take chemicals out of the plastic and into whatever you put inside it. In this case that would be your lip balm.
